Before you can lead others, you must be able to lead yourself. To lead
yourself successfully is a knowing you made the effort to become the best of
which you are capable of. Leadership is about how well a person leads him or
herself .
The better you are at
leading yourself the better the
chance you are at having a positive impact on others. If you cannot
lead yourself how will you make a difference?
Why do you need
to learn to lead yourself first? Leading yourself first requires self-awareness
and self-leadership. Learning to lead yourself reveals your interests and
values. It gives you direction. It keeps you from leading people where you
don’t want to go. Leading others before you know your direction can lead you
astray.
Leadership is
about reclaiming your position as the captain of your ship, so that you
move forward with a clear vision. The smallest crowd you will ever
lead is you and it’s the most important one. If you do that well, then
you will earn the right to lead even bigger crowds. Your identity is grounded
in your values and in your purpose. Be present all the time.
